Locality
Since 1960 Statistics Sweden has defined areas with continuous buildings and a population of at least 200 inhabitants. Localities thus include everything from the largest cities to small areas with only 200 inhabitants. Statistics Sweden does not have its own definition of sparsely populated areas or countryside areas.
Population Information about the population is based on the Total Population Register. It includes information about registered persons per property on 31 December of the current year. As of 2018, population in urban areas is calculated using data linked to addresses. Locality reference year refers to the time of the geographical distribution of the locality. Year refers to the time of the population registered. Dates are 31 December each year.
