Obs:

Land used for roads which are maintained either by public authorities or by private individuals or organisations and which in principle are accessible by cars, including pedestrian areas closed for car traffic and forest roads. Walkways and bicycle paths are not included. Due to methodological improvements for year 2020, and in order to improve comparability, previously released figures for years 2010 and 2015 have been adjusted using the new method.

Road area includes peripheral areas such as ditches and safety zones, and, in some densely populated areas, sidewalks. Road area in tunnels is not per se connected to land use and therefore excluded.
