A statistical method is used to protect the data of individuals in the statistics presented. For this reason, the presented totals do not always equal the sum of their reported components. See also section 2.2.6 Model assumptions in the quality declaration documentation on Statistics Sweden’s website. RegSO (Regional Statistical Areas) and DeSO (Demographic Statistical Areas) are Statistics Sweden´s breakdowns at a low regional level. DeSO consists of around 6,000 area codes while RegSO consists of around 3,000 area codes. The areas can be aggregated into municipalities and counties. RegSO is an aggregate of various DeSO codes. Some individuals cannot be geographically located within the municipality. These have been allocated to DeSO/RegSO in the central locality of the municipality to avoid identification. From the reference year 2024, there is a new updated version of DeSO and RegSO (DeSO 2025 and RegSO 2025, previously DeSO 2018 and RegSO 2020). Several revisions have been made in the new versions. Some changes are more extensive, making all areas not comparable over time. More information about DeSO, RegSO and the revisions can be found here (in Swedish):

As of 2023, the retirement age was raised from 65 to 66 years, and as of 2026, to 67 years. For this reason, statistics are reported for age groups up to 64, 65, and 66 years.
