The table contains information about land with mining areas, pits and quarries and pits. Land with quarries consists of land used for the extraction or collection of material such as gravel, moraine, rock, peat, clay, sand, chalkstone or soil in order to utilize the material for trade or other use.

Mining areas used for the extraction of minerals in open-pit or underground mines, usually in conjunction with mineral processing within the same area, resulting in the separation of commercially valuable minerals from their ores. Only surface areas are included in the statistics. Apart from the actual mining area, adjacent mineral processing facilities and dams may be included. Also, potential mining areas might be included, as well as inactive mining areas with no change in land use.

Land with quarries used for the extraction or collection of gravel, moraine, rock, clay, sand or chalkstone in order to utilize the material for trade or other use. Inactive land with quarries, with no change in land use, may also be included.
