Obs:

Sameskolan är 6-årig och eleverna fullgör sin skolplikt i grundskolans årskurs 7–9.
Med skolår 1–6 avses sameskolans årskurs 1–6.
Byskolor – benämndes tidigare fasta nomadskolor. Var främst till för de bofasta samerna.
Visteskolor – benämndes tidigare vandrande nomadskolor. Var till för de nomadiserande fjällsamerna och innebar att skolorna flyttade med samerna på vandringarna sommartid till deras olika visten. 1944–1959 saknas uppgift om antal elever per skolår i den officiella statistiken. Samtliga uppgifter, inklusive summeringar, har i stället hämtats från blanketter på Riksarkivet för dessa år. Vissa år skiljer sig antalet mellan de båda källorna:
- för visteskolor (1944–1949, 1951, 1952, 1954 och 1955)
- för byskolor (1952, 1954 och 1955)
1952–1959 gick drygt 300 elever i nomadskolans årskurs 7. De redovisas i tabellen
under skolår 6.
1960–1966 finns endast uppgifter om totalt antal elever i nomadskolans årskurs 1–6.
1967–1971 finns endast uppgifter om totalt antal elever i nomadskolans årskurs 1–3.
1977 ändrade Nomadskolan namn till Sameskolan.
1979 saknas uppgifter om antal elever.
