Obs:

National parks Decisions to set up national parks are made by the Riksdag and the Government. The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency is responsible for the information for decision-making and planning of the national parts, among other things via the National Parks Plan for Sweden. A large contiguous area of a particular landscape type can be established as a national park, according to the Environmental Code, Chapter 7 Section 2. The area should be in its 'natural state or essentially unchanged'. As a prerequisite, the government must own the land. Nature reserves Nature reserves are formed by the county councils and the municipalities, according to Chapter 7 Sections 4 – 6 of the Environmental Code. In Sweden and many other countries, forming nature reserves is one of the most common ways to protect valuable nature in a sustainable way. Nature reserves can be formed according to Chapter 7 Section 4 of the Environmental Code. Regulations for forestry Forests in national parks are protected completely, as are nature reserves above the boundary for mountain forests. In other parts of the country, there are older nature reserves or parts of nature reserves that lack regulations about ongoing use of land. This means that forests can be felled. When these nature reserves were formed, resources were not sufficient for regulations to be introduced. Rounded values
Areas are rounded to even 100s. Consequently, sub-quantities cannot be summed to a total.
The source of data on nature types types and forest land is the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency’s National Land Cover Database (NMD). The statistics are calculated based on the latest available version of NMD for the reference year. Statistics for 2018 and 2019 use NMD2018 v1.0 as the source. Statistics for 2020–2024 use NMD2018 v1.1 as the source. Statistics for 2025 onwards use NMD2023 v2.1 as the source. Productive forest land refers to forest land that is considered to be able to produce on average at least one cubic metre of wood per hectare and year.
