The numerator consists of the number of persons who completed Swedish for immigrants (SFI) during the period and who passed. The denominator consist of persons who completed/discontinued SFI. Aged 20–64 years.

Until 2009 inclusive, SFI is presented by academic year and prioritised according to the highest approved course of study. Presentation is subsequently by calendar year and the latest commenced course.

It is possible to start an SFI course multiple times, which means it can take a long time to complete the course. Because the participation of the population in SFI is small, the median value can be affected if the number of students is low in the study domain concerned.
