Methodological changes


Data between 2010 and 2014 are estimated from secondary sources and should be interpreted with caution.


Pursuant to international guidelines, a number of limited companies have been reclassified under NACE from the private sector to public administration. This affects statistics published from April 2019 and onwards.


2024-06-10: New decision-making rules have been introduced for the classification of head offices with extensive operations abroad or other Swedish corporate entities. The implementation will take place gradually, starting from the reference year 2022. As a result of the new decision-making rules, some large head offices have been reclassified as independent units and instead of support activities are regarded as primary activities. These kind-of-activity units are now included in the population with industry 70.1 head office activities. The change affects all aggregates in the statistics, which include industry 70.1.

2024-11-08: When publishing the reference month September 2024, changes are implemented that aim to increase the quality of the statistics. The changes involve revisions, in most cases small, from April 2018 to August 2024 in several industries and aggregates. Part of this improvement is due to the enhancement of methods for constant price calculations from January 2022 and onwards, which affect the industries of Education (P), Human health and social work activities (Q), Arts, entertainment and recreation (R) and Other service activities (S) and all aggregates that include these activities.


Revisions


2024-03-08: In connection with the publication of reference month Januari 2024, the statistics for mines and quarries (NACE B) and manufacturing industry (NACE C) were revised from reference month April 2023 to December 2023. The largest impact of the revision in periods outside the regular revision policy is found in industry for other non-metallic mineral products (NACE 23) and in industry for motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (NACE 29), as well as all aggregates where these are included.


2023-12-08: In connection with the publication of the reference month October 2023, the statistics for the Industry for Electrical Equipment (NACE 27) have been revised from May 2023 to July 2023. The revisions also include all aggregates where the above industry is included. This is due to new information received by Statistics Sweden.


2026-05-08: In connection with the publication of the reference month March 2026, the statistics for the Industry for motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (NACE 29) have been revised from January 2025 to December 2025. The revisions also include all aggregates where the above industry is included. This is due to new information received by Statistics Sweden. 2023-03-09: At publication, the time periods January 2022 to December 2022 were revised for all industries in E-S (SNI 36-96). 2023-04-06: In connection with the publication of reference month February 2023, statistics for publishing activities (58), Computer programming, consultancy and related activities (62), scientific research and development (72) were revised for reference month January 2018 to December 2022. The revisions are due to new information reaching SCB. In connection with this, minor revisions of the statistics from the same period were also carried out for other industries in E-S (SNI 36-96). The revisions also apply to all aggregates that include these activities. 2023-06-09: As of reference year 2023, there have been changes to the statistical unit business unit. In addition, from April 2023, estimated revenue data is used monthly from declared VAT data to the Swedish Tax Agency for small and medium-sized enterprises in industries (SNI 07–33). The changes are introduced with the ambition to increase the quality and streamline the production of the functional statistics that describe individual activities in the economy, for example the production value of business. 2024-01-10: When publishing the reference month November 2023, index series in constant prices for retail trade (SNI 47), as well as all aggregates that include the industry, are corrected back to January 2022. This since a problem with the constant price calculations was detected. 2024-02-09: When publishing the reference month December 2023, index series for retail trade (SNI 47), as well as all aggregates that include the industry, are corrected back to April 2023. This after it was discovered that double counting of objects occurred in these periods. 2024-03-08: When the reference month January 2024 is published, the base year is changed to 2021. This means that the average of the monthly indices in 2021 is 100 (index 2021=100). 2024-10-10: In connection with the publication of reference month August 2024, statistics for industry for motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (SNI 29) were revised for reference month January to July 2024. The revisions are due to new information reaching SCB. In connection with this, minor revisions of the statistics from the same period were also carried out for other industries (SNI 07-33). The revisions also apply to all aggregates that include these activities. 2024-11-13: The table has been corrected for the time period 2010-2015 regarding the sectors educational establishments (P) and real estate companies (L). 2025-02-10: In connection with the publication of the reference month December 2024, the statistics have been corrected for the periods April 2024 to November 2024. This after an error was discovered in the calculation of final statistics for the second and third quarter of 2024 (final statistics for a given month are published one to three months after the first publication for the month depending on the placement within the quarter). The error stems from the model calculation of the turnover of so-called annual filers, i.e. companies that, due to their turnover size, only need to declare VAT annually. The correction affects all industries. 2025-02-10: In connection with the publication of the reference month December 2024, the statistics for sales and repair establishments for motor vehicles and motorcycles (NACE 45) and professional, scientific and technical companies (NACE M), as well as all aggregates where these industries are included, will be revised back to April 2023. This is because new data has been received by Statistics Sweden. 2025-04-10: In connection with the publication of the reference month February 2025, the statistics for industry for chemical, chemical products and pharmaceutical products (NACE 20-21) and industry for motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (NACE 29), as well as all aggregates where these industries are included, will be revised back to January 2023. This is because new data has been received by Statistics Sweden. 2025-05-09: In connection with the publication of the reference month March 2025, the statistics have been corrected for the industry of chemical, chemical products and pharmaceutical products (NACE 20-21), as well as all aggregates where these sectors are included. The correction concerns the reference month of September 2024. 2025-12-10: In connection with the publication of the reference month October 2025, the statistics for the industry of chemical, chemical products and pharmaceutical products (NACE 20–21) were revised, as well as all aggregates where these sectors are included. The revision concerns the reference month of June 2025. This is due to new information received by Statistics Sweden. 2026-05-08: In connection with the publication of the reference month March 2026, the statistics for the Industry for motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (NACE 29) have been revised from January 2025 to December 2025.
