Main central government units comprise departments of government administration and other central government agencies, authorities and institutions whose jurisdiction covers the entire economic territory, apart from the administration of the social security sector.
Other central government bodies are units outside the legal definition of central government but classified inside central government in national accounts.
Main local government units comprise municipalities, regions and municipal associations.
Other local government bodies are local government owned corporations and organisations classified inside government in national accounts.
Social security funds comprise all public sector institutional units whose main activity consists of administrating funded social insurance systems. The institutions included in the sub-sector are the Swedish National Pension Funds (so-called AP-funds), as well as holding companies own and controlled by the funds, and the Swedish Pension Agency.
