Now you have come to the page, Choose variable. This page give you the oportunity to select which variables and values you want to display in your result of the table. A variable is a property of a statistical unit. The page is divided into several boxes, one for each variable, where you can select values by click to highlight one or more values. It always starts with the statistics variable which is the main value counted in the table.

Obs:

National parks Decisions to set up national parks are made by the Riksdag and the Government. The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency is responsible for the information for decision-making and planning of the national parts, among other things via the National Parks Plan for Sweden. A large contiguous area of a particular landscape type can be established as a national park, according to the Environmental Code, Chapter 7 Section 2. The area should be in its 'natural state or essentially unchanged'. As a prerequisite, the government must own the land. Nature reserves Nature reserves are formed by the county councils and the municipalities, according to Chapter 7 Sections 4 – 6 of the Environmental Code. In Sweden and many other countries, forming nature reserves is one of the most common ways to protect valuable nature in a sustainable way. Nature reserves can be formed according to Chapter 7 Section 4 of the Environmental Code. Nature type mapping In cooperation with the County Administrative Boards, the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency is continuously mapping the nature types in the national parks and nature reserves. The mapping is done with the help of satellite pictures. Statistics from the nature type mapping is available in the VIC Natur database on the object level. Based on data about protected forests in each reserve, the nature type mapping helps to distribute the types of forests as protected or non-protected areas. In 2011 the nature type mapping was supplemented with forests in the mountain regions, which gives a homogenous mapping of the forest types in all of Sweden. The nature types in the mountainous areas are also presented on the basis of aerial photos that interpret vegetation maps that give a more detailed nature type classification of the open mountain vegetation types. Statistics on nature types Overlapping areas between different protected forms are excluded in the statistics. As a result, the entire area is shown for those areas that are presented in prioritised order, that is, national parks. Afterwards, only the area that lies outside of the previous protected type is presented. The calculation continues in the same way until the last areas have been added, according to the following order: National parks, nature reserves, conservation areas, forest habitat protection areas, other habitat protection areas, Natura 2000 areas (SCI), Natura 2000 areas (SPA), and national city parks.

With this type of calculation, no areas are counted twice when overlapping occurs between different types of protection. This also means that the presented area for 'other protection types' is not consistent with the actual values, because overlapping with national parks and nature reserves has been eliminated. The priority order among the protection forms is based on knowledge about how the protection forms overlap, and on an assessment of the strength of the protection, in particular for forest land.
Protected forest land In addition to the outer boundaries, geographically defined sub areas that do not have regulations for forestry are also used for nature reserves and nature conservation areas. These sub areas are not included as protected forests in the compilations. Most of this forest land within the nature reserve that has natural values of forestry is fully protected. Forest land without protection is mainly in all nature conservation areas, but also in nature reserves that are protected for reasons other than biological forest values. These reasons include outdoor activities, geological terrain forms, or other natural environments where forest land is a very small part of the object. In the Natura nature types map (NNK) of protected areas, the spread of Natura 2000 habitat within protected areas was mapped. In the Natura 2000 areas that do not have any other protection, we have included the defined forest habitats as protected forests. Forests within other habitats or that are not Natura 2000 habitats are not protected. It is unusual that forest land that has been marked as Natura 2000 habitat is not protected as a nature reserve or National Park, because over 80 percent of the habitats in the Natura 2000 areas are within national parks or nature reserves. Rounded values
Areas are rounded to even 100s. Consequently, sub-quantities cannot be summed to a total.

non-productive forest

Includes even non-productive mountain forests.

Oceans include EEZ (exclusive economic zone outside of the county boundary, according to N2000 areas).

year

2014

256 hectares, of which 13 hectares of nature reserves, have not been mapped and are missing from the analysis. 844 hectares of ocean (Natura 2000, SCI) outside of the economic zone have not been included.

2015

293 hectares, of which 17 hectares of nature reserves, have not been mapped and are missing from the analysis. 847 hectares of ocean (Natura 2000, SCI) outside of the economic zone have not been included.
