Obs:

The types of studies included in the category Other students has changed over the years. 1) Student grants for studies abroad were not included 1993–1994 nor 1996. 2) Advanced vocational education (KY) was included from 1997. Thus about 800 students who started in this (then new) type of education 1996 are not included. 3) For Folk High Schools students in long courses are included from 1997, but for the years 1997–1999 only partially since the data for these years only cover participants in the education initiate for unemployed (kunskapslyftet). 4) Students in the preparatory year of science and technogy in universities and university colleges are included from 1998. 5) The category Others with government financial support refer to students who have received grants from the National Board of Student Aid called SVUX,SVUXA, UBS or rekryteringsbidrag (recruitment grant) unless they are already included in an other category. 6) Post-graduate students with an activity rate less than 1 per cent are excluded from 2005 on. Between 2000 and 2004 students with an activity rate less than 10 per cent were excluded. 7) From 2015 Arts- and culture courses are included in Supplementary education programmes. 8) From 2016 Supplementary education programmes have been replaced by Arts- and culture courses. 9) Due to changes in the reporting system in higher education, from 2018, the previous university of students attending distance education in higher education is listed as their study municipality to a greater extent than before. Before 2018, students attending distance education mainly had the municipality where they were registered in the population listed as their study municipality (see Quality Declaration – Participation in education). 10) From 2021, contract education at universities is not included.

national background

born abroad, at least one of the parents born in Sweden

If the person is born abroad and country of birth is unknown for both parents, both the parents are assumed to be born abroad. However, if the person is adopted and none of the parents has been resident in Sweden, from 2004 on, the person is classified as having at least one parent born in Sweden if at least one of the adoptive parents is born in Sweden. This change explains the increase in the number of foreign born with at least one of the parents born in Sweden between 2003 and 2004.
