The new Swedish Standard Classification of Education, SUN 2020, was implemented in the 2019 version of the Swedish Register of Education. The classification of the level of education remains unchanged compared with SUN 2000. As a result of the implementation of SUN 2020, at the 1-digit level, the area 8 Services decreased by 1.4%, while the areas 4 Natural Sciences, mathematics and Information and Communication technologies (ICTs) and 5 Engineering, manufacturing and construction increased by 1.3% and 0.2% respectively among persons aged 25-64. Other changes are minor at the 1-digit level. For further information about SUN 2020, see Section 5.1 in the Quality Declaration for the Educational attainment of the population (UF0506) and www.scb.se/SUN (Swedish version only). For the 2000 version, the Swedish Register of Education underwent extensive quality improvements which led to a break in the time series and this means that comparisons with previous versions of the register must be done very carefully! -1) SUN, the Swedish Educational Terminology, was adapted to the international terminology ISCED 97 (International Standard Classification of Education) with the new SUN 2000. -2) A number of new data sources were added to the register. The most important new sources were: -*Total higher education points from 1993 from the Higher Education Register* -*Total KOMVUX (adult education) points from 1988* -*Foreign educational programmes which are recognised by the National Agency for Higher Education* -*The National Board of Healths register of healthcare and medical staff*. XX Note that educational data might be incomplete for a small number of persons. It could concern people with degrees from abroad or with private degrees or with internal company-educations or people with old degrees.
