Footnotes

Statistics Sweden conducts data collection in accordance to the Eurostat manual ”Environmental goods and services sector accounts - Handbook” (2016). It describes which environmental areas, industries and variables (e.g. output and export) to include. Environmental Goods and Services Sector is commonly abbreviated using the letters EGSS.

Statistics Sweden follows the Eurostat and EU definition of EGSS. EU regulation 691/2011 describes EGSS as the production activities of a national economy that generate environmental products for the purpose of environmental protection and resource management. Resource management includes the preservation, maintenance and enhancement of the stock of natural resources and therefore the safeguarding of those resources against depletion.
The source of the export in the Environmental Goods and Services Sector (EGSS) is the Foreign Trade Statistics, which covers mainly trade in goods. To estimate service exports, the VAT-registry is used.
