Now you have come to the page, Choose variable. This page give you the oportunity to select which variables and values you want to display in your result of the table. A variable is a property of a statistical unit. The page is divided into several boxes, one for each variable, where you can select values by click to highlight one or more values. It always starts with the statistics variable which is the main value counted in the table.

Obs:

This table contains statistics on water abstraction in industry disaggregated by region and type of water. Industry is defined as companies within section B, C and D (Mining and quarrying, Manufacturing and Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply) in the NACE framework. Type of water denotes source of water, e.g. groundwater, surface water, sea water or water purchased from other water supplier. Note that water abstraction from nuclear power plants is not included in the table. Volumes of abstracted water can differ from volumes of used water. For data on water use, please use the table: Water use in industry by region and type of water. The statistics refer to water abstraction during the entire year of reference.

region

Figures according to older regional divisions have been restated in order to facilitate comparisons over time.

type of water

purchased potable water

Purchased potable water delivered from public or other water supplier.

purchased potable water and reused water

Purchased potable water and treated or untreated water used by other economic unit before delivery.

groundwater from own source

Freshwater recovered, from an underground formation, by means of self-supply (excluding drainage water).

groundwater from own source including drainage water

Freshwater recovered from, an underground formation, by means of self-supply and drainage water from mines and quarries. Before 2015, drainage water was not included in the data collection. For time series analysis on groundwater abstraction, please use “Groundwater from own source”.

surface water from own source

Freshwater recovered from lakes or other water courses by means of self-supply.

sea water from own source

Sea water (salt or brackish water) recovered from the sea by means of self-supply. Sea water is surface water with a mass salinity higher than around 0,5 per mille.

water from unknown source

Water with unknown source (ground water, surface water or sea water).

total volume of freshwater

Total volume of freshwater purchased and abstracted by means of self-supply. Freshwater is surface water and groundwater with a mass salinity less than around 0,5 per mille.

total volume of water

Total volume of freshwater and seawater purchased and abstracted by means of self-supply.
