Natural monuments
Natural monuments are often natural objects such as giant oaks, copses, erratic blocks and giant’s kettles. They can also consist of small areas, usually less than 1 hectare, such as habitats of rare plants. Therefore, in this type of protection, the number of monuments, rather than the acreage, are presented.
Decisions on natural monuments are made by the county administrative board or municipality, in accordance with Chapter 7, Section 10 of the Environmental Code. Most natural monuments were established through older decisions and under earlier environmental protection legislation.
