observations

Population density per sq. km

Observations:
When calculating population density (population/km²) the population figure at 31 of December is used together with the land area figure at 1st of January the following year.
Population density was calculated with unrounded values for land area until 2017. From 2018 the land area figures shown in the table where used to calculate the population density.

Land area sq. km

The tables show the conditions on December 31st for each respective year according to administrative subdivisions of January 1st of the following year.

Land area sq. km

Land area includes watercourses of a width of 6 metres or less, and meres and smaller pools of water up to maximum of several 10km² in size.

region

2012-09-12 values were corrected for Hammarö, Karlstad and Säffle concerning year 2012.

observations

Land area sq. km

A new method with more detailed area calculations was implemented from 1 January 2000. For this reason, it is not advisable to compare data before and after year 2000. Yet another change of method with even more detailed area calculations was implemented from 1 January 2012. For this reason, it is not advisable to compare data before and after 2012. Between 2000-01-01 and 2018-01-01 data for municipalities will not match the total for counties, because of enclaves, which have not been possible to divide into municipalities. Land area includes watercourses of a width of 6 metres or less, and meres and smaller pools of water up to a bit more than 10 m² in size.

Land area sq. km

Between 2012 and 2018 the sum of the area figures on municipality level does not match the figures on county level due to enclaves that couldn’t be referred to a municipality. From 2019 all enclaves have been referred to a municipality.
