Continued increase in the number of employees in the municipal sector In May 2017, the number of employed persons aged 15-74 was 4 983 000 (±39 000), not seasonally adjusted. This was an increase of 92 000 compared with May 2016. The number of employed men increased by 52 000 and amounted to 2 616 000 (±30 000), while the number of employed women increased by 40 000 and amounted to 2 368 000 (±31 000). The employment rate amounted to 67.4 (±0.5) percent. Among men, the employment rate amounted to 69.7 (±0.8) percent, while among women it amounted to 65.1 (±0.8) percent. Smoothed and seasonally adjusted data shows a continued increase both in the number of employed persons and in the employment rate. The number of employed persons was 5 012 000, which corresponds to an employment rate of 67.8 percent. In May 2017, the number of employees aged 15-74 amounted to 4 475 000 (±43 000), not seasonally adjusted. Compared with May 2016, this was an increase of 52 000. The number of permanent employees in the same period amounted to 3 750 000 (±42 000). Compared with May 2016, this was an increase of 53 000. The number of temporary employees amounted to 725 000 (±34 000). Furthermore, the number of employees in the municipal sector increased by 45 000 to 1 166 000 (±33 000) compared with May 2016. In the last six months, this is the fifth month when the number of employees in the municipal sector increased. Compared with nearby months, smoothed and seasonally adjusted data show an increase both in the number of permanent and temporary employees. On average, the number of hours worked in May 2017 amounted to 157.0 (±1.7) million per week, not seasonally adjusted. According to calendar-adjusted figures, there was no significant difference compared with May 2016. Data show a continued increase in the number of hours worked per week. In May 2017, smoothed and seasonally adjusted data amounted to 152.5 million hours worked per week. In May 2017, the number of unemployed persons aged 15-74 amounted to 387 000 (±25 000), not seasonally adjusted. The unemployment rate amounted to 7.2 (±0.5) percent. The number of unemployed men amounted to 208 000 (±19 000) and the number of unemployed women amounted to 179 000 (±18 000). The unemployment rate among men amounted to 7.4 (±0.7) percent and among women it was 7.0 (±0.7) percent. The number of unemployed young people aged 15-24 was 138 000 (±17 000). Among those, 97 000 (±14 000) were full-time students. The unemployment rate among young people was 21.8 (±2.4) percent. Among people aged 15-74, smoothed and seasonally adjusted data show a decrease in both the number of unemployed persons and in the unemployment rate. The number of unemployed persons was 357 000 in May 2017, which corresponds to an unemployment rate of 6.7 percent. Among young people aged 15-24, smoothed and seasonally adjusted data show a decrease in both the number of unemployed persons and in the unemployment rate. The number of young people who were unemployed was 110 000, which corresponds to an unemployment rate of 17.3 percent.
