Obs:

2010 Information about land area in total and outside of localities for 2010 and previously is based on calculations according to an older method and with other basic data, water in particular. The previous land area is thus larger than that for 2015, which must be considered in the comparisons. More information is available at www.scb.se/MI0802 2015 Changes have been made in the method and definition of localities, which affects the distribution of localities and the statistics on population, land area and population density. If comparisons are to be made between localities of 2015 and back in time, it is difficult to determine if the changes are due to actual changes in buildings or if they are due to the new method and definition. Locality Since 1960 Statistics Sweden has defined areas with continuous buildings and a population of at least 200 inhabitants. Localities thus include everything from the largest cities to small areas with only 200 inhabitants. Statistics Sweden does not have its own definition of sparsely populated areas or countryside areas.

Population

Population
Information about the population is based on the Total Population Register. It includes information about registered persons per property on 31 December of the current year. As of 2018, population in urban areas is calculated using data linked to addresses.

Land area in hectare

Land area is presented in the table. It is calculated as the total area minus the water area. The real estate map of Lantmäteriet (the Swedish mapping, cadastral and land registration authority) with the scale 1:10 000 is used when calculating water areas. All areas have been calculated in SWREF99 TM, spherical method. One hectare is 10 000 square metres, or 0.01 m2, that is, the area of a square measuring 100 m x 100 m.
